Our research revealed that, due to the high level of unskilled labour and unemployment in the Postmasburg and Danielskuil areas, the vast majority of people in the SMME sector are “forced entrepreneurs” who cannot find alternative employment options in the formal sector. A lack of the required skill sets and experience to apply for jobs or tenders at the local mines, also limits the growth and progress of these SMMEs.
Jasper Power strives to drive skills development through Enterprise Development, and part of this drive includes the mentorship of new entrepreneurs, as well as old ones we have worked with.
We trust that through the establishment of mentorship programmes, we may
be able to achieve the following:
• Support SMMEs with simple accounting activities – for example, how to
create a correct tax invoice.
• Assist and advise on how to maintain a fully functional operational business.
• Ensure that proper accreditation is taken if required
• Budgeting and cash flow
SMMEs that have been appointed to Jasper Power’s mentorship
programmes, have been placed on one of the following:
1. Enterprise for South Africa: Key outputs for this programme are business
consulting support, workshop-based business skills training, and also
monitoring and evaluation of SMMEs. This programme consists of one-on-one
interaction with the business owner.
2. SMME Starter Pack: This is an Energy and Water SETA accredited
programme, training SMMEs with respect to the development of both
leadership skills and early-stage business acumen.
