These are fully comprehensive burseries and include the following:
Under the Jasper Power Company’s Educational Bursary Programme, there are currently five bursaries in place. Here the five proud recipients of 2018 from Postmasburg’s local communities.
Thato was supported by Jasper last year and is currently doing his 2nd year.
“My name is Thatayaone Motshabeng, but I prefer being called Thato, I am from a small place, called Groenwater (Postmasburg). I’m studying a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, majoring in Computer Science and Business Management. The year of completion of my degree is 2020, and I wish to continue with my honors after my bachelor's degree (even if I study part time).
I strongly believe that computer science students should not work for someone else, but they should start their own companies (businesses), because computer science is about inventing new things and making life easier for people and computer scientist do not need something big to start their own companies. Therefore, in five years’ time, I see myself having my own company for software and web design.”
Theo was offered a full bursary in 2018 after having been supported by Jasper as a once-off bursary candidate in 2017. He is currently doing his 2nd year.
“My name is Thamsanqa Theophillus Mothibi, I’m a very friendly person who's loyal and love to assist people. I originated from Postmasburg. I’m studying mechanical engineering and my anticipated year of completion is next year 2019. In five years time, I want to see myself as an independent person, studying for my masters degree.”
“My name is Sheperd Khumalo, 18 years old and from a town called Postmasburg in the Northern Cape Province. I was born in Mafikeng and later my parents moved to Postmasburg in the Northern Cape province. I am currently studying the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (mining). It is my first year of study.
In anticipation for my year of study, it would be based on how hard I study and put in the required work to meet the minimum requirements to complete this degree in record time. I approximate my year of completion for this degree to be in four or five years from now.”
“I am Tshiamoeng Charlene Moruti, the first born and from the family of 3. I am originally from Groenwater, in the Northern Cape. I am currently studying my first year of Electrical Engineering at CPUT (Cape Peninsula University of Technology).
My anticipated completion year of study, is 2021. In 5 years’ time, I see myself being a qualified electrical engineer and playing a very prominent role in the community, empowering women in the engineering world. I am the second generation to go to University in my family therefore I am very grateful for such an amazing opportunity of being funded by Jasper Power Company.”
“My name is Boineelo Kgoronyane, I am currently in my final year, studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce with specialization in Economics degree at the University of the Free State. As this is my final year, I anticipate completing my undergraduate this year and graduate in 2019; then enroll to do Honours this year for next year and graduate again in 2020. I currently live in Groenwater, in the Northern Cape.
In a nutshell, in the next five years, I will have worked hard enough to be able to have assets under my name, and to have developed the necessary transferable skills to make me a successful in my profession, while being in a position to help my family reach financial freedom for themselves. My favourite quotes are from the late former president Mr Nelson Mandela who said, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world.’ And ‘Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.’ ”
